DAY 1 AT THE ISBHF WORLDS

Opening Day at the ISBHF Ball Hockey World Championships had many close and exciting games.

The 7th Women’s World Championships began with Team Canada defeating the host Team Slovakia 4-0.

Goalie Nathalie Girouard made 26 saves and earned the shutout. Edie Brenning has two goals to contribute to the victory. Team USA opened the tournament vs Team Great Britain and won the game 5-1. Taylor Steadman scored 3 goals for the hat trick.

The 13th Men’s World Championships was started with Group A and Group Q. In Group A, the first game of the day had many goals as Team Greece scored 6 to edge Team Switzerland 6-5. Nicholas Pitsikoulis and Stephen Alvo each had 1 goal and 2 assists for Team Greece while Mario Paulik had 2 goals and 1 assist for Team Switzerland. 

Team Canada fought back from an early 3-0 deficit to overcome Team Italy by a score of 6-4. Danick Martel had 1 goal and 2 assists to goal along with Jordan Crocker’s 2 goals to pace the Canadians. Frank Giustini scored 2 goals for Team Italy. The host Team Slovakia began defense of their World Championship title with a close 2-1 victory over Team Finland. Milan Rampacek had the game winning goal. Team Czech Republic defeated Team USA 3-0 behind the goaltending of Jan Simara who had 15 saves for the shutout. Martin Krucek had 1 goal and 1 assist for Team Czech Republic.

In Men´s Group Q action, Mark Anthony Haber had 2 assists for Team Lebanon as they won 4-1 over Team Armenia. Derek Spence made 28 saves and Scott Elliott scored 2 goals for Team Cayman Islands in a 3-0 victory over Team Hong Kong.
